Paula and Simon Battle Over 'X Factor' Auditions

Previously a judge on American Idol, Simon Cowell brings his hit UK show X Factor to the US for the first time and starts his search for the next big singing star or stars (groups can also audition). Auditions take place in front of a live audition and the singers are judged by Cowell, ex-American Idol judge Paula Abdul, producer L.A. Reid and Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger. On last night's episode of The X Factor, though, it was Paula who was feeling more inclined to give contestants the ol' heave ho.

After an extended X Factor montage that had Paula and fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger saying no to a series of moderately talented ladies, the gloves really came off when 19-year-old Tiah Tolliver stepped onto the stage.

While Simon thought that Tiah had "steel in her eyes" and L.A. Reid mostly liked what he heard, Paula and Nicole wasn't feeling it one bit. Simon begged the ladies to reconsider their 'no' votes, while Reid prompted Tiah to dig deep for her one final shot at impressing the ladies. In the end, Nicole changed her vote to a 'yes' and Paula Abdul was left as the only hold out.
